Ben Dutson, a chef for Sodexo Prestige Events, won the Banqueting & Event Chef Award and Glyn Greenow, head chef at the Infantry Battle School (IBS) won the Cost Sector Chef Award. Sodexo was also represented among the nominee shortlist by Malcolm Smith, executive group chef and David Ward, head chef at the University of Stirling, who were runners up in the Contract Catering Chef Award, and by Michael Godfrey, executive head chef at Eton College, nominated in the Competition Chef category.

As executive head chef of Sodexo Prestige Events, Ben is responsible for a £7m food business, employing up to 200 chefs at any one time. He is in charge of all aspects of catering at high profile, major events such as the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, golf’s British Open Championship, Royal Ascot and Henley Royal Regatta. Ben also ran the Prestige Pavilion – the official fine dining hospitality venue serving 25,000 covers – at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Ben’s success comes off the back of a win at the Caterer and Hotelkeeper’s Acorn Awards announced last week.

Glyn Greenow is head chef at the Infantry Battle School (IBS), Brecon in the Welsh national parks, a military unit that is part of Sodexo Defence’s Wales and West Midlands multi activity contract to provide a range of support services, including catering, retail and leisure. Glyn and his team cater for up to 1,800 customers a day, including a team of instructors and support arms, Ministry of Defence civilians and phase 2 and 3 training British Army Infantry soldiers during their promotional courses.

Ben Dutson said: “It is a great honour to have won the award. I’ve been able to work on some amazing events with a fantastic team in the last few years and this is a great reflection of all our hard work.

Glyn Greenow said: “It was an honour to be surrounded by some of the industry’s most influential people and winning the Cost Sector Award was the icing on the cake. I have received some excellent training and mentoring during my time at Sodexo and I am now focused on developing the great team around me.

David Mulcahy, Craft and Food Development Director at Sodexo and Vice President of the Craft Guild of Chefs, said: “The standard of nominees for this year’s Awards was very high, so Ben and Glyn have done incredibly well to win in their categories, as have Malcolm, David and Michael to be shortlisted.

“The fact that Sodexo was so well represented in the shortlisted entrants is testament to our expertise and the level of talent within the company. We employ some of the best chefs in the industry and our commitment to training and development is second to none.”

The Craft Guild of Chefs Awards are the ‘Oscars’ of the culinary world, recognising the best chefs working right across the industry.
