Employee Engagement

At Sodexo, we believe an engaged workforce is a successful workforce, which is why our focus on employee engagement is critical to our business.

Employee engagement is a measure of loyalty to a company. Our employees are our biggest asset to deliver high quality services and make every day a better day for all the people we serve. We strive to make sure that our employees feel committed to our mission and the Better Tomorrow Plan, always willing to go the extra mile.

Two-way communication
We make sure to benefit from regular dialogue with our employees through different channels:

  • Deep-dive focus groups - ad hoc 6-8 people meetings to discuss specific issues around the business

  • Biennial employee engagement survey - employees are asked to identify Sodexo's strengths and weaknesses from their point of view. We measure the evolution through an overall employee engagement score.

'Green Spark' is the initiative, inviting employees to submit their good ideas to help make Sodexo 'greener'. Over the summer of 2011, we launched a 'Green Spark' initiative, inviting employees to submit their good ideas to help make Sodexo 'greener'. They were then able to vote online for their favourite Green Spark ideas from a shortlist and we now aim to work with the winners to implement the top three ideas. Through this engagement initiative, we were able to tap into employees' creativity, identify the best ideas, engage, empower and support colleagues to make a difference across the business through the Better Tomorrow Plan commitments to reduce our environmental impact.

All of these initiatives are part of a journey to maintain an engaged workforce.

Say, Stay, Strive
Ultimately, we hope our employees will “say, stay and strive”:

  • “Say” is about speaking positively about the business, products/services and as an employer

  • “Stay” is about employee commitment: a desire to be part of Sodexo and an alignment with its goals

  • “Strive” is about employees' discretionary efforts: a desire to go above and beyond the call of duty to achieve success
