Sustainable fish and seafood

We are committed to serving certified sustainable fish and seafood in light of dwindling wild fish stocks and the need to improve aquaculture (fish farming) standards.

Sodexo has been working closely with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) since 2008 to ensure that a greater proportion of the fish and safood served in our restaurants comes from sustainable fisheries.

The MSC runs the world's leading certification programme for sustainable seafood. The MSC runs the world's leading certification programme for sustainable seafood. Its goal is to help maintain and protect marine ecosystems now and in the future. The MSC ecolabel offers clients and customers an independent assurance that the fish and seafood they eat can be traced back to an independently certified sustainable fishery. With MSC chain of custody certification, we have an assurance that every step of the supply chain has been certified.

Since December 2010, all our UK restaurants and cafés are certified to serve MSC fish and seafood - a first for foodservice. This includes more than 375 schools and universities, 54 hospitals, 150 defence sites, 350 company restaurants and other sites across the country. We have a range of over 50 MSC certified products available, covering species such as pollock, coldwater prawns, cod and mackerel. All the seafood products on our Education menu offers in the UK (Club Joules and For You) are now MSC certified.

We also engage with our employees and customers at each of our sites with training initiatives and promotional material to get everyone working together to support marine ecosystem sustainability.

Sustainable Fish CityWe support the Sustainable Fish City campaign to make London the first ever 'sustainable fish city'.
