Sodexo wins second FM contract with one of UK's largest NHS Trusts

24/9/2009

Sodexo, a leading facilities and estates management provider to the NHS, has secured a huge five-year contract with King George Hospital, Ilford, to provide total facilities management (TFM) services.

The contract, worth around £35 million in total turnover, is Sodexo's first TFM contract with the NHS outside of its Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contracts and sees Sodexo employing around 360 members of staff to provide services to the 455-bed hospital.

King George Hospital is part of the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University NHS Trust which serves a population of around 700,000 people from a wide range of ethnic and social groups, making it one of the largest NHS Trusts in England. Sodexo has been providing the TFM services to the Trust's PFI Queen's Hospital in Romford since it opened in October 2006.

Sodexo's contract at King George Hospital includes the provision of a wide range of services to the hospital, including patient, staff and visitor catering, estates and energy management, grounds and gardens, security, traffic management, cleaning services, pest control and portering.

Simon Scrivens, managing director, Sodexo Healthcare, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the King George Hospital contract and are especially pleased to develop our existing relationship with the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. Their reputation for clinical excellence in what is a very diverse catchment area is second to none, and we are pleased to be able to support them whilst they concentrate on what they do best.”

John Goulston, Chief Executive of Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We have built up an extremely good working relationship with Sodexo at Queen's Hospital, and are delighted to be extending this to King George. I am confident that they will bring their proven high standards in facilities management to both of our sites.”
