Sodexo and Frome Community College scoop top honours in Somerset school awards

14/7/2008

Sodexo, school meals provider at Frome Community College, picked up two awards at the prestigious Chairman's School Dinner Awards held at the County Town Hall in Taunton on Thursday 10 July.

Sodexo secured 'The Best Secondary School Dinner Award', and 'The School Dinners Suppliers Trophy Award', beating off competition from other secondary schools across Somerset.

As part of the judging process, staff from Sodexo and the college prepared a presentation pack consisting of menus, posters and information about healthy eating and the nutritional content of its school meals. Members of the judging panel including Cllr Alan Gloak and Dr. Kath Wilson also visited the college to taste the meals for themselves.

Judges were particularly impressed with the quality and standard of the nutritional information on offer in the school dining hall, all part of Sodexo's 'For You.' offer in secondary schools.

The Best Secondary School Dinner award was presented to Sodexo and the college for their main course of 'spinach topped lentil and lamb Shepherd's pie, served with broccoli, carrots and fresh leeks'.

Sarah Barnes, Sodexo catering manager at Frome Community College said: “I am so proud of the Sodexo team, the teachers, students, parents and support staff at Frome College. We all have a really close relationship and we all feel part of the Frome College family. These awards show that a good partnership will always bring you success and I am really pleased for everyone.”

Mr Barry Bates, Frome Community College principal, said: “The college and Sodexo have worked in partnership and sales are up 9% this year compared with a national decline at secondary level. I am delighted for Sarah that her team's hard work has been recognised with these awards.”
