Over 450 representatives from the UK's hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism businesses gathered to witness Sodexo take the prize in what was one of the most competitive competitions to date.
Sodexo was recognised for its effective communication of its strategic corporate objectives across the company and to its external stakeholders.
The Sodexo Foundation, which focuses on tackling poor nutrition in local communities, was picked out for special praise, clearly linking Sodexo's core business expertise to social responsibility.
Anne Pierce, chief executive, Springboard, explained: “In a relatively new area, but one of increasing importance for an organisation, we were looking for a winner who could demonstrate a real commitment to social responsibility - both at a strategic and operational level”.
Thomas Jelley, corporate citizenship manager, Sodexo, said: “At Sodexo, corporate citizenship has a direct link to our core business activity and is part of our everyday business practice. We are incredibly proud of the work we do to tackle key environment, procurement, workforce and community issues, and are delighted to have been given this recognition by Springboard.”
Sodexo's corporate citizenship activity is no stranger to recognition, as it has, for three years running, featured in the The Sunday Times Top 100 Companies that Count supplement following the publication of Business in the Community's Corporate Responsibility Index.
The Sodexo Group has also been a member of the FTSE4Good Index since its creation in 2001, and is listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index (Europe) as 'Industry Leader' and 'Worldwide Supersector Leader'.
