Sodexo, a leading provider of on-site service solutions, has won the contract to deliver total soft facilities management (FM) services for Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The contract will be for five years with an option to be extended for a further two. It will have an annual turnover in excess of £15 million and is scheduled to begin at the beginning of December.

The Trust provides acute services across two sites - the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath – and treats more than three quarters of a million patients each year. Sodexo has been providing soft FM services to the Princess Royal Hospital since 1996.

The new contract, one of the largest of its kind that the NHS will award this year, will see Sodexo providing a full range of soft FM services including cleaning, patient catering, non-patient dining and retail, house-keeping, portering, grounds maintenance, waste management and linen supply.

Simon Scrivens, managing director, Sodexo Healthcare, said: “We are delighted to have won this contract and are especially pleased to be building on our existing relationship with the Trust. Today’s announcement is testament to Sodexo Healthcare’s commitment to supporting the NHS with its twin challenges of improving quality and at the same time delivering operational efficiencies.”

Chief Executive of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, Chris Adcock, said: "Sodexo has a proven track record in providing the services included in this contract to a very high standard including at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. The majority were already outsourced but to a number of different companies and bringing them under a single contract in this way allows us to get the best value for tax payer's money and to keep improving the quality of these vital services."
