Foodie and Sodexo ambassador for health and wellbeing Matt Dawson, recently launched Sodexo's Back Britain event, in support of the national, Love British Food campaign.

This year, being held to coincide with the Olympics, the annual Love British Food campaign is urging all catering outlets to take advantage of this, the most patriotic of years, by putting British food and produce at the centre of their promotions and menus.

In support of this national event, Sodexo invited chefs, suppliers and guests from across the business and the industry to gather at one of London's oldest and most vibrant markets to celebrate the very best British, seasonal produce. Guests were treated to an eclectic brunch using a wide range of produce and had the opportunity to meet and talk to suppliers about their areas of expertise.

On show and available to try were a selection of British cheeses such as some of the best West Country cheddar and stilton, sustainable British seafood like hake and gurnard, wild and foraged foods, a stunning display of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as a rare breed of pork from Suffolk and many other artisan and classic British products.

David Mulcahy, craft and food development director, hosted the event with guest appearances from Matt Dawson and Love British Food organiser Alexia Robinson, while Sodexo's award-winning culinary team were on hand to talk to guests, promoting creativity in the kitchen and all things British.

With his history very much seconded in sport, Dawson highlighted the relevance of promoting British produce this summer, saying: “Food and sport go hand in hand and the Olympics present a huge commercial opportunity for everyone involved in food service. What better time to show off the best of British food and produce, when the eyes of the world are upon us?”

Of the event, David Mulcahy said: “Sodexo has been a long time supporter of buying seasonal and well sourced produce from across the UK. The event at New Covent Garden Market was the perfect platform to launch the Sodexo Back Britain promotional campaign which offers us an excellent opportunity to showcase and celebrate British produce across our business.”
