Sodexo UK Remote Sites can confirm that two of its employees were on board the Super Puma helicopter that ditched in the sea near Shetland. The incident happened west of Sumburgh airport at approximately 18.20 yesterday.

One surviving employee has received medical attention in Lerwick and arrangements are in place to reunite him with his family as soon as possible.

One employee, Sarah Darnley, lost her life.  Her family have been informed and we are currently offering every support we can at this sad time.

Ian Russell, Sodexo’s UK Remote Sites managing director, said: "Our thoughts are with all the families who are affected by this accident.  The health and safety of our people is our greatest responsibility and concern and we will continue to support our colleagues and assist the relevant authorities as the situation develops.

"We’re devastated by the loss of Sarah.  She was a valued and respected Sodexo employee with us since 2002. She was from Elgin but lived in Aberdeen and was a stewardess on the Borgsten Dolphin.  Our heartfelt condolences go to Sarah’s family at this very difficult time.”
