Sodexo, the world’s largest services company, has been awarded silver in the sixth annual Sustainable Facilities Management Index (SFMI), the UK’s only sustainability benchmark in the FM sector.

The SFMI, set up by the Acclaro Advisory in 2013, provides a summary each year of how the FM sector has progressed against a baseline of sustainability activities, keeping organisations developing and up-to-date in a constantly changing industry. The SFMI can be used by businesses to assess how their outsourced FM rates in implementing sustainability through their contracts and corporate management.

Sodexo’s silver classification was awarded in recognition of the significant steps being made in the implementation of sustainability at an operational and strategic level.

The SFMI publishes the classifications of assessed organisations to provide greater transparency and share the progress being made towards a sustainable FM sector.

Sean Haley, Sodexo UK & Ireland Regional Chair said, “Sustainable business practice is a fundamental part of our daily business practice.  We recognise that the issues which affect our clients, customers, employees, suppliers, the environment and other stakeholders also have an impact on the success of our business.

“We are proud to have received this silver classification and hope that by partnering with the SFMI we can inspire other FM businesses to take important steps to support a better tomorrow.”

Chris Havers, Programme Director of the SFMI also commented, The SFMI was delighted that Sodexo took an open and transparent approach during their SFMI sustainability audit. After achieving high sliver ranking, we are hopeful that they will continue to develop their systems and projects and work towards becoming a gold classified business. We look forward to next year already.”
