Sodexo held its annual Star Awards ceremony at the Westminster Park Plaza Hotel in London.

The Star Awards ceremony is the highlight of the Sodexo calendar and recognises the most outstanding of its 34,000 employees across 23 categories. This year it was hosted by comedian and television personality Patrick Kielty.

The ceremony, which was attended by over 650 people, began with a drinks reception, followed by a three-course dinner and prize giving led by new Sodexo UK & Ireland regional chairman Neil Murray.

This year, the Sodexo Star Employee of the Year Award was won by maintenance manager Terry Lapsley from Sodexo’s Northumbria University Student Living contract. Terry has proved to be a true Sodexo ambassador and impressed the judges with his commitment to making quality of life a positive reality at his site.

Lyn Would from infrastructure and investment was this year’s recipient of the coveted Alan Tilley Award. Alan Tilley worked for the company for over 40 years and was awarded an OBE for his services to hospitality. The award is given to an individual who exemplifies Alan’s qualities of dedication.

The Rising Star Award was won by 24-year-old system deployment coordinator Charlotte Miller, who has quickly progressed through Sodexo since joining in 2013.

Neil Murray, regional chairman, Sodexo UK & Ireland, said: “The Star Awards is the pinnacle of our year because it gives us, as an organisation, the opportunity to truly recognise and thank our people for their hard work and dedication. Every day should be about making our employees feel valued and involved in the organisation’s progress. As a services company, we truly rely on our people to deliver quality services to our customers and clients.”
