STOP Hunger, the Sodexo Foundation’s global initiative active in almost 40 countries worldwide, has donated a total of £4,100 to help Aberlour Child Care Trust to buy kitchen equipment, utensils, cookery books and food to support healthy eating activities held by the Trust at its locations across Scotland.

In the UK, STOP Hunger was launched in 2005 to tackle hunger and malnutrition in local communities. Part of Sodexo’s Better Tomorrow Plan sustainability strategy to 2020, the initiative has three main components:

  • Financial donations thanks to employee fundraising

  • Sharing of Sodexo knowledge with charity partners

  • Employee volunteering through charity partners

The Family Support Service in Glasgow received £2,000 for kitchen equipment such as pots, pans, food containers, cake tins, food steamers and roasting trays for its residential units for mothers affected by drug misuse, and their children. The Sycamore Project in Kirkcaldy received £500 for cookery books, a food processor, pots and pans for a residential home for young people with social, emotional and behavioural problems.

Aberlour’s Befriending Service in Stirling was also awarded £600 for food to support healthy eating evenings for young people experiencing difficulties in their lives. Whilst further up north, the Primrosehill Family Centre in Aberdeen received £1,000 for food and utensils to support cooking sessions with families where a parent has a learning disability with child aged up to 12 years.

The Foundation’s £4,100 donation to support the work of Aberlour Child Care Trust was commented on by Paul Cowie, account director for Sodexo Prestige in Scotland. He said: “The STOP Hunger campaign is delighted to support the excellent work of Aberlour Child Care Trust. The Trust has many goals that strike a cord with our Foundation as STOP Hunger supports charities that tackle hunger, poor nutrition and promote life skills such as cooking in local communities, as well as providing a central focus for Sodexo employee fundraising and volunteering.”

Marie-Claire Jones of Aberlour Child Care Trust, said: “We are so grateful to Sodexo for supporting our vital work with this generous donation from the STOP Hunger Campaign. Improving life skills among the children and families we support is a very important of our work as Scotland’s leading children’s charity and this donation will make a substantial difference to some of the country’s most disadvantaged young people.”
