Sodexo has received a silver award from the Ministry of Defence for its commitment and support to military reservists.

The silver award is part of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme which was launched in July 2014, to recognise employers for their support and commitment to the UK armed forces community.

The award acknowledges Sodexo Defence for actively communicating and upholding a positive stance to colleagues via its HR policies and procedures and also supporting reservist employees by offering them the flexibility needed to fulfil their annual training and mobilisation commitments.

Sodexo Defence’s work to support the armed forces community includes raising awareness of reserve forces at Sodexo events, the development of a specific pathway within Sodexo’s induction programme to support veterans, increasing the awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and military anniversaries amongst our managers and supporting the mobile careers of service family members who work for Sodexo.

Rachel James, human resources director for Sodexo Defence, said: “As a leading supplier of services to the Ministry of Defence, we believe we are ideally placed to support regular and reserve forces, veterans and their families, not just in our catering, retail and leisure facilities, but through every aspect of our business. This includes our positive recruitment of ex service personnel and our strong policies to support reservists; we are committed to supporting every one of our employees who is a reservist or who is interested in becoming a reservist and this is a key element of our commitment to the armed forces corporate covenant. We are delighted that our support to reservists has been recognised with a defence employer silver award and look forward to further strengthening our support to the armed forces community going forwards.”
