Lift off for sustainability at British Airways i360 Viewing Tower

  • Sodexo operates the events management and catering at British Airways i360, a moving observation attraction on Brighton seafront who recently won the ‘Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism’ silver award at The Beautiful South Awards.

The award recognises tourism businesses committed to being sustainable, responsible and ethical in how they operate and interact with customers, the wider community and the environment.

The attraction, which welcomed its millionth visitor in 2019, was built with sustainability at its heart. Everyone working at BA i360 is committed to delivering responsible operations through each area of the business. This is demonstrated in the careful environmental and site management, ethical recruitment and people policies, traceable local supply chains, meaningful community relationships and a business model which delivers back to the city of Brighton & Hove.

BA i360 chefs, employed by Sodexo, are passionate about showcasing the finest local ingredients with delicious, creative and playful dishes that are not constrained by any single style, just like the city’s inhabitants! Around 50% of the ingredients served in the West Beach Bar & Kitchen are sourced locally by Sodexo’s central purchasing function and a food map shows local suppliers. Most of the drinks served at the Sky Bar are produced in Sussex, from Nyetimber to Southdowns Water, Hoogly Tea, Harvey’s Ale and Brighton Gin. BA i360 was also one of the first Brighton businesses to sign up to a local No Plastic Straws policy. Plastic straws are now only available upon request only. As part of their mission to keep the beaches of Brighton clean, they are dedicated to reducing their plastic waste. They ensure that all their waste is either recycled or disposed of responsibly, meaning nothing goes to landfill.

BA i360 have also offered free venue hire to key community events such as Brighton Festival, Brighton Science Festival and PRIDE, and engage fully with these community celebrations. The pod and Nyetimber Sky Bar can be hired exclusively for receptions and events.

As of 1 February 2020, products containing unrecyclable polystyrene and single use plastic bags have been removed from our supply chain. Click here to find out more about the steps we’ve already taken to reduce the plastics we use.
