From apprentice to award nominee - Patrycia can take the heat

The Craft Guild of Chef Awards have long been known as the ‘Chefs Oscars’. Sodexo commis chef apprentice Patrycia Gora is one of this year's finalists, shortlisted for the 2019 Apprentice Chef award.

The prestigious awards recognise emerging and well-established talent from across the culinary industry and are some of the most hotly contested awards in any chef’s calendar. In 2019, Sodexo are lucky enough to have four chefs shortlisted for awards across three categories.

  • Patrycia Gora, Tidworth Garrison, Government & Agencies - Apprentice Chef award
  • Gemma Amor, Executive Chef, Ascot Racecourse, Sports & Leisure - Banqueting & Event Chef award
  • Brian Canale, Executive Chef, Sports & Leisure, Heritage Portfolio - Banqueting & Event Chef award
  • David Humphreys, Tillery Valley Foods, Service Operations - Development Chef award

Patrycia works as part of Sodexo Government & Agencies based at Bhurtpore Barracks at the Tidworth Garrison (Wiltshire). She started studying for her apprenticeship in 2018 where she now supports a team of twenty chefs to produce over 800 meals a day.

She was nominated for the Apprentice Chef award by the contract account manager who has seen her reap the benefits of taking the step to develop her career. They nominated her for the sheer volume of success she has achieved after spending such a short amount of time in the kitchen.

Taking her Level 2 commis chef apprenticeship with HIT Training has really pushed Patrycia into developing skills and thinking about her future career aspirations.

I learn new things every day, enjoying my job and really looking forward to all the challenges ahead in my career.

Other merits include Hotelympia Food Services Competition where she won a bronze medal and finishing in the top 12 at the 2019 National T’Orque D’Or competition.

In her apprenticeship, Patrycia’s talent has been nurtured by services manager Shaun Williamson who is proud as punch at this most recent announcement.

Patrycia is pleased what her apprenticeship has done for her and is very excited to be shortlisted for the award. She is looking forward to the experience and looking to continue exploring new things.

I am so glad that I decided to study an apprenticeship as I have learnt so much in a short space of time and developed skills that have built my confidence. I have entered cooking competitions, won the Sodexo Apprentice of the Year award and have also been recognised at the regional Star Awards evening.

Patrycia is an inspirational example of how becoming an apprentice at Sodexo can open the door to opportunities and progression. Her work and dedication are the reasons why Sodexo nurtures talent and supports its people with a commitment to improving their quality of life.

On Thursday 6 June, Patrycia will join over 800 guests for the 2019 Craft Guild of Chef Awards for a star-studded evening in London. Sodexo is a long-term supporter of the event, sponsoring the prestigious Special Award. The best of luck to Patrycia and the other Sodexo finalists!
