19 Sodexo managers have graduated with Level 4 diplomas in facilities management from its Global Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) Academy.

The two-year course gives attendees an insight into the FM marketplace, the skills and knowledge to manage and operate FM contracts and understanding of international practices in the FM industry.

Graduates work across a range of Sodexo UK and Ireland segments, including its Corporate Services, Schools & Universities and Healthcare businesses.

Sarah Perry, Sodexo UK and Ireland HR Director, said: “Management development is not only key to the future of our organisation, but the clients and consumers we serve. The Global IFM programme enables a terrific amount of upward movement in Sodexo, providing a fantastic return on the investment we make in our colleagues.

I am especially proud of this cohort of graduates, as they have been a group of ‘firsts’ – tackling the inaugural global qualification, as well as managing the uncertainty of Covid-19. Congratulations to all of our graduates.

A total of 53 people have graduated from Sodexo’s Global IFM Academy since its launch in 2019, with two-thirds gaining an internal promotion following their qualification.

One graduate, Phil Dale, began his career with Sodexo as a casual cleaner in 2013, progressing to his current role as a General Service Manager on a Corporate Services contract.

Phil explained: “When on the course, I didn’t feel like I was out of my depth. All of the previous courses - on site learning and development and coaching and leadership from my site management in the past made this qualification enjoyable and achievable.

I have gone from what was supposed to be a three-month stop-gap, cleaning toilets, to running a £1.2 million contract, being very proud of what I have achieved - but even more proud to say I work for Sodexo.

The diplomas are accredited by the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM).

Julian Burton, IWFM course leader, added: “I extend my congratulations to all the individuals who have graduated this year, especially with having to deal with the additional challenges caused by the global pandemic. They should be very proud of themselves for their achievement, as I know both IWFM and Sodexo are.”
