At Sodexo, we’re committed to providing an environment where people can bring their whole selves to work – this includes those with visible and invisible disabilities. Recruiting, engaging and developing employees with a disability is a key and vital component of that.

In the UK 16% of working age adults report having a disability and whilst 81.7% of people without disabilities are employed, up from 81.1% in the previous year, the figure for those with disabilities in employment is only 51.7%, up from 50.7%¹.

Recognising this “disability gap”, the Government has set a target for more than one million more disabled people to be in work by 2027.

In 2015, Sodexo committed to providing 100% of its workforce with access to programs for people with disabilities by 2025. This means that in all countries where Sodexo operates, we will establish measurable initiatives to promote the recruitment, engagement and development of people with disabilities, within the parameters local laws and policies. Disability Confident Leader

In June 2016, Sodexo reinforced its commitment to the inclusion of people with disabilities by signing the ILO Global Business Disability Network Charter. Building on this, in June 2018, Sodexo UK achieved Leader status in the UK Government's Disability Confident scheme validating the work undertaken within the region.

We are delighted to achieve this accreditation. The award affirms the commitment we set out to recruit and retain people with disabilities and long-term conditions. This builds on a global commitment Sodexo made in 2015 to provide 100% of our workforce with access to programmes for people with disabilities by 2025.

A day without explanation - the future of disability inclusion?

On Thursday 3 December 2020, Sodexo took part in PurpleSpace's Purple Light Up; a 24hour global broadcast in celebration of International Day of People with Disabilities.

Sodexo's Sarah Perry, HR Director in the UK& Ireland, and Anusoorya Themudu, HR Director in Asia Pacific, took part in a webinar with Kate Nash, CEO of PurpleSpace, to discuss the findings of our research report into the lived experience of people with disabilities: A day without explanation - the future of disability inclusion?

You can watch the webinar below. If you have problems viewing the webinar, click here to open in a new window

In association with PurpleSpace, Sodexo carried out research to find out the perspectives of people with a visible or hidden disability about the challenges they experience, and the solutions provided to create inclusive environments.

We did so because we believe that it is only through understanding the voice of the individual that we can provide a truly personal service.
