Across Sodexo’s portfolio of world-class venues, innovations to reduce waste and robust steps towards a more sustainable future are taking centre stage.

Sodexo’s commitment to Better Tomorrow 2025 includes goals to reduce food waste by at least 20 per cent in the UK, and to support our clients' efforts to reduce their own environmental impact and meet their sustainability goals.

Already in Sodexo’s UK and Ireland catering operations, plastic straws and stirrers are a thing of the past, and this year we will remove all single-use plastic bags and polystyrene foam items such as cups, lids and food containers too.

Sodexo is a signatory of WRAP’s Courtauld Commitment 2025, as well as the industry-wide Food Waste Reduction Roadmap developed by IGD and WRAP to tackle food waste in the UK. Sodexo also champions Business in the Community’s Waste to Wealth commitment.

At large sporting and leisure venues in particular, recycling disposable cups can be a challenge. We have forged partnerships with organisations such as Simply Cups and are working on a number of cup recycling schemes at major stadia and sporting venues.

Megan Horsburgh, Head of Diversity and Inclusion and Corporate Responsibility, Sodexo UK and Ireland, explains:

Environmental protection is one of the key issues which we focus on from a global and regional perspective. We acknowledge that action is critical to ensure that we, as responsible corporate citizen, do as much as it can to improve the quality of life of future generations and reduce the impact our business operations has on the environment.
