Welcome

Welcome to the first Sodexo Campus Services Showcase at UCL. Today is designed to bring together facilities management professionals, campus users and colleagues, industry experts, innovators and strategic partners around a shared ambition: to create better, more sustainable and more engaging campus experiences.
The thinking behind the event is simple. The most effective campus services do much more than keep buildings running. They influence how people feel, how easily they can navigate and use a place, and whether a campus feels welcoming, inclusive and cared for. As expectations evolve, our sector must combine brilliant people and operational discipline with new technology, intelligent data, sustainable design and genuine insight into campus users.

Across the exhibition and speaker programme you will see practical innovation in action, from automation, digitisation and environmental services to employability, concierge, biophilia, waste reform and sustainable food. Just as importantly, the day creates space for conversation. We want people to share ideas, challenge established thinking and identify opportunities that can be adapted and applied across UCL and the wider education sector.
Thank you to UCL for hosting us, to our speakers and exhibitors for contributing their expertise, and to every guest for joining the conversation. I hope the showcase leaves you with useful contacts, practical ideas and renewed energy for what campus services can achieve when we work together.
UCL’s estate is the setting for learning, research, discovery and community. Our ambition is to ensure that every interaction with the campus supports those activities and reflects the standards of a world-leading university. That means looking beyond individual service lines and considering the whole experience of the people who use our buildings and spaces every day.
A central part of our direction is the creation of One Team, One Service, One Brand across Estates and Facilities. Whether a colleague is directly employed by UCL, works for a strategic partner or supports us through the wider supply chain, campus users should experience a joined-up, consistent and responsive service. Achieving that requires shared purpose, common behaviours, clear standards and a commitment to solving problems together rather than allowing organisational boundaries to define the experience.

This showcase is an opportunity to connect that vision with practical delivery. The ideas presented today demonstrate how people, technology, data, design and sustainability can combine to improve outcomes across a complex estate. They also provide a valuable platform for colleagues and partners to learn from one another, to test what could work at UCL and to build the relationships needed to turn ambition into action.
I place great importance on creating an exemplar campus experience, one that is welcoming, inclusive, efficient and recognisably UCL. I hope today’s discussions encourage us all to think boldly about the contribution campus services can make and how, through a genuine One Team approach, we can deliver that experience consistently for our students, staff and visitors.
