Social Impact Reporting Platform is a ‘game changer’
Christine Leslie, Social Impact Manager- Sodexo Agencies & Property Professional Services
The development of the Social Impact Reporting Platform (SIRP) is a game changer in tracking and recording our social value targets and activities within our Government and Agencies contracts. It allows us to qualify and quantify everything we do and report it directly to clients and for me, as a social impact manager, it’s already showing numerous strengths and benefits.
Reporting social return on investment is now an integral part of all central government agreements, so having a robust system in place to do this is crucial.
Accountability and transparency across social value commitments
The SIRP has given us that structured framework to work within, allowing us to accurately map all contract commitments and the activities we’ve put in place to meet them. From day one it has provided our leadership team with an easy-to-use tool to demonstrate to our client counterparts how every social impact pledge we made is being brought to life in our live operational plan, and where we are adding additional value beyond.
It’s impressed us, and it’s impressed our client too. We mobilised a new contract in June 2023, and since then the feedback has been incredibly positive. What’s particularly struck a chord is the availability and visibility of the journey we’re on. Via monthly meetings we report progress against a series of KPIs, share a summary of the headline statistics from the SIRP dashboard and go behind the numbers to discuss different key topics each month such as waste management, spend with SMEs, our training programmes or our move to all electric vehicles, for example.
Quarterly meetings then take this one step further and involve other key stakeholders, including Government departments, and at the end of the first year of the contract we published a comprehensive summary of activity and results.
So, the SIRP is a tool that informs and engages at all levels. On top of the benefits to clients we’re using it to recognise the huge contribution our employees make too who, after all, are the power behind many of the social impact activities and initiatives both inside the contract and in the surrounding communities.

A flexible platform that is full of potential
The platform’s flexibility is another big plus point. With clients, we can jointly review KPIs to ensure everything continues to meet contract-specific needs. We can build new initiatives into it, as we have done with our first trial site with a professional mentoring programme and community-led training courses in partnership with local social enterprises.
Where clients use different proxy values to report against, the development team has redefined its capabilities to measure and report in the way that suits them. And it has all the potential to develop further as it becomes available across more of the client base.
The SIRP gives us the mechanism to document social value in a way we never have before. Through one platform, using a dashboard that shows everything at a glance – statistics that bring our clients’ attention to the results we’re achieving, and the value we’re adding.
The feedback speaks for itself with clients telling us that it has greatly improved the visibility of our activities and outcomes, and that’s a powerful resource to have at our fingertips.
