Sodexo introduces digital dining to RAF Brize Norton with official opening of 'Runway 25'
Last week, Sodexo Defence and the Royal Air Force officially opened a new and enhanced catering experience for service personnel, visitors and contractors at RAF Brize Norton’s Gateway House called ‘Runway 25’.
Developed in partnership with the team at RAF Brize Norton and HQ Air Command as a part of the RAF ICE programme (Improved Catering Experience), Runway 25 is a modern, digital dining facility that aims to improve accessibility to affordable, nutritious and customisable meal choices throughout the working day.
The outlet is part of the RAF ICE Trials project, a modernisation initiative launched by the RAF to upgrade food quality, facilities, and digital offerings for service personnel, as well as ongoing efforts to improve the Lived Experience at RAF Brize Norton.
Situated near the technical engineering sites on the airfield, the introduction of this flexible food option will especially support personnel who struggle to reach the main diners at mealtimes due to the size of the site.
The facility features digital order kiosks, mobile phone app ordering, a refitted and fully kitted kitchen with latest technology ovens, seating options, a designated order pick-up point, and other retail features, such as a Costa Express machine.
The ribbon cutting ceremony, which took place on Tuesday 21st July, was attended by representatives from HQ Air Command, RAF Brize Norton, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and Sodexo Defence as well as high-profile suppliers to the base, including Coca Cola, Nestle, and Costa Coffee.
Since opening its doors, Runway 25 has achieved a 4.8/5 average rating for customer feedback alongside initial trading results, both of which have exceeded Sodexo’s expectations.
“Runway 25 is the result of continued close collaboration with our partners at the DIO and RAF. It is an exciting innovation that will reduce cooking and waiting times, reduce waste, and improve access to healthier food. Technology is truly transforming how we support our clients and customers.
While this is our first project in support of the RAF ICE programme, it follows several successful digital deployments across our Defence business, reaffirming our continued commitment to improving the Lived Experience for our Armed Forces communities.”
“The opening of this new retail catering outlet, Runway 25 represents a significant investment in the welfare and experience of our personnel, visitors and contractors. As a station that operates around the clock in support of Defence outputs, it is essential that we provide modern, accessible and high-quality catering facilities that meet the needs of our workforce.
In partnership with Sodexo, we are enhancing the catering experience at RAF Brize Norton by providing a modern, accessible facility that offers greater choice and convenience for our station community."
