Andrew Miller – Apprentice Quantity Surveyor

  • Published on Feb. 05, 2026

Andrew Miller’s career journey within Sodexo showcases the power of opportunity, support, and continuous development. Having joined the organisation in 2021 and now progressing as a Level 5 Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, Andrew’s story reflects how hands on learning and professional guidance can shape a rewarding career path. Sodexo offers a wide range of apprenticeships across multiple disciplines, enabling people at all stages of life to gain valuable experience while working toward recognised qualifications–an opportunity Andrew has fully embraced.

My Journey So Far

I joined Sodexo in 2021 as a Helpdesk Operator. Having already worked in facilities management, I wanted to learn more about how a larger organisation operated and what opportunities might be available. It didn’t take long for me to realise that Sodexo was somewhere I could build a meaningful and long term career.

Why I Chose an Apprenticeship

After leaving school with A levels, I wasn’t sure which career path to follow. I tried roles in banking and insurance, but nothing felt like the right fit. I didn’t want to commit to a full degree without certainty about my future. An apprenticeship offered the perfect mix of structure, real world experience and academic learning.

This led me to a Level 5 Quantity Surveying apprenticeship with day release every Wednesday in Newry.

Learning and Support

I have completed my first semester, which included modern construction methods, AutoCAD and Revit. I am now studying measurement and construction law. Throughout this process, the support from my team has been invaluable. They tailor my workload around my studies, answer questions whenever I need help and create opportunities for me to gain hands on experience through site visits.

This support helps me contribute meaningfully to projects – not just complete apprenticeship tasks – and gives me the confidence to apply what I’m learning.

Where I’m Heading

I am in my first year of a three year programme, and I plan to progress to a master’s degree once I complete Level 5. I am genuinely excited about the future and feel strongly supported as I continue to grow within Sodexo.

My Message to Others

“It is never too late to carve a new path. If things don’t work out the first time, it doesn’t mean it’s over. There are always other options, and with the right support, you can find the route that works for you.”
