Our comprehensive roadmap to net zero and complete decarbonisation in the UK and Ireland

In 2017 we launched our global sustainability roadmap, Better Tomorrow 2025. At that time, we committed to reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 34% by 2025. This target was validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) who scrutinised our target and agreed that this would have a real positive impact on curbing global temperature rise and limiting warming to 1.5 degrees.

We have already exceeded this target having reduced our GHG emissions by 38.5% in 2021, against our 2017 baseline. So, we have set ourselves a new regional net zero roadmap.

Sodexo is prioritising decarbonisation to reach net zero emissions and reduce its impact on climate change. We have committed in the near-term to reduce GHG emissions by 55% by 2030** across scopes 1, 2 and 3. We will only reach net-zero once we have achieved our long-term target of reducing GHG emissions by 90% by 2045*** and all remaining emissions neutralised.

When we talk about all three scopes, we include within that every single component of our business’ operations spanning our supply chain, all the way through to our client sites.

The SBTi have verified our net-zero science-based target by 2045 and approved our near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets making us one of the first companies to receive this formal approval.

We have also set ourselves the target of being carbon neutral in our direct operations by 2025.

This commitment forms part of our wider social impact pledge and will enable us to continue to support and improve the communities in which we live, work and serve.

* Sodexo Limited commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by FY2045 from a FY2017 base year.
** Sodexo Limited commits to reduce absolute scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions 90% by FY2045 from a FY2017 base year.

Delivering savings through LED lighting

Lighting represents around 20% of a building's electricity consumption, so more efficient lighting is a simple and effective way to reduce energy use. LED lighting can deliver electricity savings of up to 80% against other less efficient lighting, while also having a longer lifecycle
