Employees from Sodexo Justice Services and Essex Community Rehabilitation Company will be among those to be recognised by HRH Princess Royal in the Butler Trust Awards.

Now in its 31st year, the Butler Trust Awards marks outstanding work in prison, probation, community and youth justice settings, those people who reflect some of the best – and often very moving – examples of the dedication, skill, and creativity found throughout the criminal justice system.

Prison custody officer Sarah Jones from HMP Bronzefield and former diversity officer from Essex Community Rehabilitation Company (CRC) Hannah Hunt will both collect awards from Butler Trust patron HRH Princess Royal at a ceremony later this year.

HMP Peterborough offender supervisor Kirsty Huish and Essex CRC housing liaison officer Paul Brown will receive commendations.

Summaries of the original nominations have been published on the Butler Trust website:

Sarah Jones
Hannah Hunt
Kirsty Huish
Paul Brown

Janine McDowell, CEO Justice, Sodexo UK & Ireland, said: “It’s fantastic to see the examples of hard work and dedication of these individuals recognised by the Butler Trust, one of the most prestigious awards in the justice sector. In all four nominations, the individuals display a terrific passion for their work and compassion for those around them, which is so crucial to successful rehabilitation.”

Simon Shepherd, Director of the Trust, said: “The Butler Trust Awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements among people who work, often with little praise, with some of the most dangerous, troubled and vulnerable people in the country. Each year we receive hundreds of nominations – including many by prisoners themselves – which detail the impressive commitment and prowess shown by so many people in their roles. We are delighted to play a role in giving the sector, and our winners, some much-deserved recognition and thanks. In challenging times it is good, although no surprise, to see prisons, probation and youth justice full of people striving on the public’s behalf to make a real and enduring difference in their work.”
